New emergency preparedness Conditions of Participation take effect November 15, 2017. Home health agencies should not expect an emergency preparedness requirements delay. Unfortunately, most non-accredited agencies don’t have much of an emergency preparedness plan in place—and even accredited agencies aren’t fully prepared for the new requirement. With the implementation date looming, agencies face an increased risk for CMS survey citations unless they act now to put policies and procedures in place for the most common emergencies such as cyberattacks, equipment and utility failures, and disasters causing interruptions to the normal supply of essential resources, including water, food, and fuel.

During this on-demand webinar, expert presenter Diane Link, RN, MHA, will walk participants through the instructions that CMS surveyors were recently given in a June transmittal for applying the emergency preparedness rule during their next survey. Attendees will also learn what items are hot on surveyors’ radar and how they can steer clear of any deficiencies.

At the conclusion of this on-demand program, participants will be able to:

  • Identify ways to protect patients from harm during an emergency
  • Understand how to avoid CMS survey citations
  • Ensure staff follow policies for compliance
  • Minimize risks for vulnerability
